As the pandemic strikes around the globe, changing daily rhythms, disrupting economic patterns, redefining normality and transforming ways of thinking, people slowed their footsteps and reflected on the relationship between humans and Mother Earth.  Rivers represent the birthplace of human culture.  They cradle all life, nurture all species, sustain the continued survival of countless species, and nourish all the different cultures and customs around the world.  Every city has a river that runs through its citizens' beautiful memories.  For Taipei, that's Tamsui River.  Without Tamsui River, Taipei's overall temperature would rise by 3°C.  So as a corporate citizen, Cymmetrik gave a spirited response upon hearing CommonWealth Magazine's call to Do Something for Tamsui, a public welfare activity.  The initiative calls for corporate citizens to sign a newly drafted Tamsui River Accord, exert their influence, and create a positive impact for the environment.

Steadfast in its mission to “Beautify Products, Beautify Life,” for 50 plus years Cymmetrik has quietly practiced corporate social responsibility and concepts of sustainable development.  In addition to its continued dedication to the 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and participation in social services and public benefit activities, Cymmetrik promotes green printing—the use of recyclable, thin, light, non-toxic environmentally friendly materials and water-based inks.  It also supervises its waste disposal processes and adopts high-standard wastewater processing solutions to minimize its environmental impact and to maximize its reduction in energy use and carbon emission.  Cymmetrik believes in responsible corporate citizenship, and is working harder than ever to contribute more to both corporate and social sustainability.

In response to CommonWealth Magazine's invitation, Cymmetrik's General Manager Alex Mei rose to the occasion and led an army of company staff to participate in June's “Roll up your sleeves for Tamsui”cleanup activity and protect the Tamsui River System.  Along with representatives from a wide range of industries, everyone learned about the Wugu Wetlands from local guides and cleaned up the river under the guidance of Wilderness Protection Society volunteers.  In and around the Wugu Wetlands, brave “sleeve-rollers” pulled out weeds, picked up garbage, and restored habitats for waterbirds.  In a very direct, practical way, everyone Did Something for Tamsui.

“If you want to walk fast, walk alone.  But if you want to walk far, walk together.”  Just as CommonWealth Magazine President Yin-Chuen Wu declared during the river cleaning session, when it comes to social welfare and environmental protection, Cymmetrik is always there.  Expectation brings influence, and that compels even more people to act.  To protect the environment, simply start with the little things, everyday things, thing that anyone can do.  They all add up, and the ripples will create a better, more beautiful society.

With the pandemic hitting everywhere and climate change accelerating for the worse, stability hangs on a limb in the greater environment.  But whatever may come, Cymmetrik will stay its course and continue to “make life beautiful.”  In addition to Doing Something for Tamsui, it'll continue to deliver on its promise to the environmental: to lower the environmental effects of its operation, to care for environmental protection, to give back to the society, and to do its part, always, in environmentally sustainable operation.
